Guidelines for project defense – PPGCTA
According to the Internal Regulations of the PPGCTA, master’s students must defend their research project by the end of the second academic semester, and doctoral students must do so by the end of the third academic semester.

How to schedule and conduct the project defense?
To schedule the project defense date, the student must send the following to PPGCTA (tca@ufv.br):
- The digital version of the project
- The names of the committee members
- The date, time, and format of the defense (in-person or online)
Note: It is the student’s responsibility to send the project to the committee members.
Examination Committee
The examining committee for the research project is composed of the advisor, co-advisors (if any), and a rapporteur (a member external to the student’s advisory committee). The participation of all members is mandatory at the time of the research project defense.
Research Project Registration
The registration of the final version of the project (including any revisions made after the defense) must be initiated by the advisor, who is responsible for submitting it to the Research and Graduate System (SisPPG).
After the advisor’s submission, the project must go through the following approval steps:
- Recommendation by the DTA Research Committee
- Recommendation by the DTA department head
- Recommendation by the Center Director (CCE)
- Approval by the Office of Research and Graduate Studies
Only then is the project officially registered.
The registration of the research project is mandatory for the thesis/dissertation defense to take place. Without the registered project, it is not possible to register the thesis/dissertation defense committee in the AcademicoPG System.
