Guidelines for Thesis Defense – PPGCTA and guidelines for submitting the final version to the PPG
Only doctoral candidates who have fulfilled the following requirements will be eligible to submit to the thesis defense:
⇒ Complete at least twelve (12) credits;
⇒ Meet the English language requirement;
⇒ Enroll in the course TAL 797 – Seminars for two (2) academic terms and obtain a grade of S (Satisfactory);
⇒ Complete two academic terms of Teaching Internship (TAL 776, TAL 777, TAL 778 – 1, 2, or 3 credits, respectively), totaling a maximum of 3 credits (CAPES doctoral scholarship holders only);
⇒ Have the research project registered with the PPG;
⇒ Have passed the Qualifying Examination;
Defense Scheduling
The defense must be scheduled through the online form, which must be completed with all the required information.
After completing the form, the PPGCTA must be notified by email (tca@ufv.br) regarding the defense scheduling.

Note: The documents listed below must be attached to the defense scheduling form:
⇒ Proof of acceptance of at least one (1) article related to the thesis topic in a Qualis journal (Food Science Area) ranked A1, A2, A3, or A4, with the advisor listed as the corresponding author; or proof of at least one (1) patent application filed with the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), related to the thesis topic and coordinated by the advisor (Patent application accepted for students admitted from 2023/2 onward);
⇒ Proof of participation in at least two (2) national and/or international scientific events with presentation as first author (Only for students admitted from 2023/2 onward);
⇒ Thesis similarity report (If overall similarity exceeds 40% and/or 5% for a specific source, a justification for the similarity must be submitted together with the report) (This report is generated by the advisor).
The thesis defense committee must be created in the Graduate Academic System (AcademicoPG) (advisor/student).
Examination Committee
The committee must be created in the Graduate Academic System (AcademicoPG).
Committee composition: At least five (5) full members and two (2) alternate members.
Requirement: Among the full members of the thesis examination committee, at least one (1) member must be external to the program and one (1) member must be external to UFV. Neither of these two (2) members may belong to the student’s Advisory Committee.
Documents for the Thesis Defense
The documents required for the defense are:
⇒ Form 7 – Defense Minutes (obtained from the Graduate Academic System);
⇒ Authorization Form for electronic publication in the UFV Digital Library (obtained from the Graduate Academic System);
⇒ Defense Update Protocol (obtained from the Graduate Academic System after updating the defense information);
Defense
On the scheduled day and time, the student must appear before the examination committee to defend the thesis.
The student begins by presenting the thesis work.
After the presentation, committee members ask questions and provide comments and suggestions.
Post-Defense Procedures (Submission of the Final Version of the Thesis)
Within a maximum period of ninety (90) days from the date of the defense, the student must submit the final version of the thesis directly in the AcademicoPG system.
