CHECKLIST – Theses and Dissertations UFV
To schedule the defense of the dissertation/thesis, the following items must be verified:
- ( ) Study Plan: Must include all semesters, meet the requirements established by the UFV and PPGCTA regulations, be up-to-date, and approved;
- ( ) Research Line: Must be registered and approved;
- ( ) Research Project: Must be registered as a training project, indicating the academic level (Master’s/PhD), and the student must be listed as the project executor;
- ( ) Advisory Committee: Must be defined in the academic system and approved before registering the examination committee;
- ( ) Confirm personal data in the AcadêmicoPG system: To confirm your data, access “Dados pessoais” (Personal Data), click the “Confirmar…” (Confirm) button, and follow the instructions.
Approval of the Examination Committee
The committee will only be approved after sending the following documents to the PPGCTA email (tca@ufv.br):
Master’s defense committees:
- Proof of submission of at least one (1) article related to the dissertation topic to a Qualis journal (Food Science area) ranked A1, A2, A3, or A4, with the advisor listed as corresponding author;
- Similarity report of the dissertation.
PhD defense committees:
- Proof of acceptance of at least one (1) article related to the thesis topic in a Qualis journal (Food Science area) ranked A1, A2, A3, or A4, with the advisor listed as corresponding author;
- Similarity report of the thesis.
Responsibilities
Student’s responsibilities
- Provide copies of the dissertation/thesis to the committee members;
- Schedule the defense with the PPGCTA office, reserve the room or generate the online link (for remote defenses);
- Send the article proof (according to degree level requirements) to the PPGCTA.
Advisor’s responsibilities
- Define, together with the student, the committee members;
- Generate the similarity report;
- Register the committee in the Graduate Academic System;
- Send the signed defense documents to the PPGCTA after the defense.
PPGCTA responsibilities
- Schedule the date and time of the defense;
- Verify and approve the committee in the AcadêmicoPG system;
- Send official invitation letters to committee members, when requested;
- Organize the defense documents;
- Issue certificates and participation statements for committee members, when requested;
- Send the defense documents to the Dean’s Office for Research and Graduate Studies after the defense.
Composition of the Examination Committee
Master’s Committee Composition: Minimum of 3 (three) full members and 2 (two) alternate members. At least 1 (one) full member must be external to the Program and not part of the student’s Advisory Committee. At least 1 (one) alternate member must be external to the Program and not part of the student’s Advisory Committee.
PhD Committee Composition: Minimum of 5 (five) full members and 2 (two) alternate members. At least 1 (one) full member must be external to the Program and 1 (one) must be external to UFV, and neither may belong to the student’s Advisory Committee. At least 1 (one) alternate member must be external to the Program and 1 (one) must be external to UFV, and neither may belong to the student’s Advisory Committee.
Post-Defense Procedures (Submission of Final Version of the Dissertation/Thesis)
As of October 28, 2024, all thesis and dissertation submissions will be made exclusively online through the AcadêmicoPG system, eliminating the need for printed copies.
Within a maximum period of 90 (ninety) days from the defense date, the student must submit the final version of the dissertation/thesis directly in the AcadêmicoPG system.
