Guidelines for preparing the study plan – PPGCTA
The study plan must be designed by the student in collaboration with the academic advisor. It should be created in the AcademicoPG system and submitted for approval by the final deadline established by the Office of Research and Graduate Studies (check the Graduate Studies calendar).
The study plan is essential for requesting course registration in future semesters. Although the registration request is made through the Sapiens system, enrollment is only confirmed based on the approved study plan in the AcademicoPG system. Therefore, the student must ensure that the study plan is always up to date and approved.
The study plan must cover all academic semesters of the program—four semesters for the master’s and eight for the doctorate—totaling a minimum of 12 credits for both levels (credits obtained during the master’s are automatically transferred to the doctoral program). At least 50% of the credits (6 credits) must be in the concentration area for both levels.
How to Prepare the Initial Study Plan
The study plan must be prepared in the Graduate Academic System (AcademicoPG) following the steps below:
a) Access the AcademicoPG system
b) Click on “Plano de Estudo” (Study Plan), then “Em elaboração” (In progress)
Note: Courses in which the student is enrolled during the entry semester will already be listed.
c) Click on “Editar” (Edit)
d) Add all semesters (4 for master’s and 8 for doctorate) and then assign the courses to each semester
e) To finalize, click on “Validar” (Validate) and then “Encaminhar” (Submit)
Important Information:
Mandatory Courses for All Levels (Master’s and Doctorate):
a) TAL 797 – Seminar: Must be taken during the first two academic semesters. It grants 1 credit, which is not included in the GPA but counts toward the minimum required credits.
b) TAL 799 – Research: Mandatory from the 2nd to 4th semesters for master’s students and from the 3rd to 8th semesters for doctoral students.
Mandatory Courses for Doctoral Students Only:
a) XXX 000 – Qualification Exam: Must be completed in the 5th semester (as stated in the PPGCTA Internal Regulations).
b) Teaching Internship (TAL 776, TAL 777, TAL 778 – 1, 2, or 3 credits respectively)
Note: This course is mandatory for CAPES doctoral scholarship holders. It must be taken over two semesters, totaling a minimum of 3 credits. For other students, it is optional.
⇒ The total number of credits from the following courses: Seminar (TAL 797), Teaching Internship (TAL 776, TAL 777, TAL 778), Special Topics (TAL 790, TAL 791, TAL 792), and Special Problems (TAL 794, TAL 795, TAL 796) cannot exceed 6 credits for fulfilling the minimum credit requirement for each academic level (master’s/doctorate).
English Language Requirement
According to the UFV Graduate Program General Regulations, to meet the English language requirement, the student must pass standardized proficiency exams approved by the Office of Research and Graduate Studies (see the list of Standardized English Proficiency Exams Accepted by PPG), provided they are taken within the last two years.
The deadline for fulfilling this requirement is the end of the second academic semester. Failure to meet this deadline will result in dismissal from the program.
